Jim Nachtman

Asst. Athletic Director, Media and Video Production,
Penn State University

NachtmanJimJim Nachtman has been a part of the Penn State community for more than 25 years. He arrived on campus as an undergrad in 1986 and graduated with a B.A. in Telecommunications in 1990.
Nachtman has more than 22 years of experience in television production. He worked for 10 years at Penn State Public Broadcasting as a director/technical director with more than a decade of experience in freelance sports production, working with production companies such as ESPN, ABC Sports, CBS Sports, MSG, Rayon Sports, and NCAA Productions.
Nachtman joined Penn State Athletics in 1999 as Director of Video Operations and Special Assistant to Men’s and Women’s Basketball. His basketball duties consisted of scheduling, NIKE account manager, marketing and promotions, project manager for construction and renovation projects, Head Coaches radio show producer, department liaison to both basketball team’s and their respective production company’s who each produced multiple Emmy Award winning Penn State Basketball highlights shows, and more. In 2005, Nachtman assumed the position of Director of Broadcast Operations overseeing the department’s growing services, responsibilities, and opportunities across traditional media outlets and new media platforms.
In 2012, under Nachtman’s direction, Penn State Athletics completed the “Steve Jones Student Sports Broadcasting Complex,” a multi-million dollar multi-venue renovation, upgrading an 11-year-old control room while also adding 2 new HD control rooms. Penn State ‘s new state-of-the-art control rooms can now produce videoboard shows, LIVE event streams, as well as LIVE events for broadcast use from 4 interconnected venues across campus covering 11 sports. (Adding connectivity to more venues providing more coverage of Penn State’s 31 teams is currently in the design stage.) Most recently, in 2015, Jim was named Assistant Athletics Director responsible for all LIVE broadcasting operations, campus video production and media services that support Penn State Athletics.
Jim and his wife of 24 years, Tina, have three children: Sarah, Katie, and Robert with Sarah currently a freshmen at Penn State’s University Park main campus.
